Consol Energy lost $97.6 million during the first quarter of 2016 as low natural gas and coal prices persisted. During the first quarter of 2015, the company had a profit of $79 million.
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource reports that Consol intends to separate natural gas and coal into two separate companies. To do so, Consol will shift more coal assets to CNX Coal, its master limited partnership.
