At the end of the second quarter, Consol Energy Inc. has increased production, added new wells and is planning to continue expanding operations in the Marcellus and Utica shale regions during the third and fourth quarters.

The Business Journal reports that in the second quarter alone, Consol Energy’s wells produced 51.9 billion cubic feet of natural gas. During the same quarter, Consol Energy drilled 11 wells in the Utica shale region and finished 12. In the Marcellus shale region, 48 new wells were put in place by the company and 51 wells were finished.

One advancement Consol Energy is making is completing wells more quickly than in the past. Wells are being drilled in a fewer number of days and more stages are finished in a day’s time.
