Sunoco has already cleared the rights of way and dug the trench for its Mariner East 2 pipeline, following its eminent-domain victory over Hopewell Township. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, construction on the $2.5 billion project started last week in western Pennsylvania.

Sunoco plans to complete the 350-mile project by the third quarter in 2017. It will connect the Marcellus and Utica Shale production areas with Sunoco’s terminal on the Delaware River in Marcus Hook. A section of it will interconnect with the 300-mile Mariner East 1 project that began operating a year ago. Additionally, the company is considering adding a third pipeline to the route.

When the project is completed, Sunoco says it will restore the landscape with the original topsoil and add new seed and mulch.
