Eastern Ohio’s Utica region sees continued housing need for shale workers

Drilling may be slowing in some counties, but permitting is going up in others. The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register reports that in Belmont County, two-bedroom apartments and hotels are being built to accommodate oil and gas industry workers in the area.
A total of seven hotels, whether already built or under construction, have come to Belmont County over the past few years. In Harrison County, the first hotel in Cadiz was built and recently open, according to Columbus Business First.
Oil and gas producers have secured land in eastern Ohio, even as oil and gas prices are low. This indicates that there will still be a need for temporary housing in the area. That need likely won’t last forever, though, when the region’s oil and gas boom ends.
