Eclipse Resources completed drilling North America’s longest lateral in only 17 days, according to Kallanish Energy.

The Great Scott 3H stretches 27,400 feet from the surface to endpoint in Ohio’s Utica shale with a lateral measuring 19,300 feet. The lateral is about 1,000 feet longer than the company’s Purple Hayes well, which previously held the record in lateral length. Both are part of its Super Lateral initiative.

With its new strategy, Eclipse reported first-quarter 2017 net income of $26.8 million, an improvement when compared to last year’s first-quarter loss of $45.53 million.
