It’s no surprise that U.S. natural gas production is expected to decrease in September with the ongoing downward slide in commodity prices, StateImpact Pennsylvania reports.

The most recent report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration states that natural gas production will fall to 44.9 billion cubic feet per day. In May, peak production stood at 45.6 billion cubic feet per day. Decreasing rig counts over the past year have influenced lower production rates, especially in formations like the Marcellus Shale.

According to the EIA report, the Utica Shale will lose about 3 million cubic feet per day of natural gas month over month. The Marcellus Shale will be down 60 million cubic feet per day month over month.
