Energy Transfer Equity will pay $37.7 billion to take control of Williams Cos. pipelines and natural gas plants, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. The plants control about a third of the United State’s rising natural gas demand, according to the newspaper.

Sunoco Logistics is controlled by Energy Transfer Equity. Sunoco is building the Mariner East pipeline that will transport natural gas liquids to Philadelphia.

Williams owns the Transco transmission pipeline, which transports Marcellus natural gas to other markets. Williams also proposed the Constitution Pipeline, which would transport natural gas from the Marcellus Shale to New York.
