EQT is joining the initiative to ensure most of its natural gas is responsibly sourced as the global market searches for energy sources outside of fossil fuels, according to Natural Gas Intelligence.

The pilot program will certify around 4 Bcf/d gross from over 200 well pads in Greene and Washington counties in Pennsylvania. it is set to be launched this month.

The certification will be based on environmental, social governance initiatives with methane emissions also quantified. Additionally, separate standards developed by Equitable Origin and MiO will also determine certification designating EQT’s natural gas as responsibly sourced.

The company separately began a certification pilot with Project Canary for production from two gas well pads in southwestern Pennsylvania in January.
