Hess Corporation has partnered with Consol Energy Inc. to explore the Utica shale and produce in the region, according to Columbus Business First.

Hess has sold thousands of acres in the Utica’s dry gas because it is now less valuable than wet gas. By the end of 2014, Hess will no longer be involved in retail gasoline, but will instead focus solely on the Utica’s “wet gas.” Hess hopes to have drilled another 35 wells by the end of the year.

Aside from the Utica, Hess has drilled in other shale plays, including North Dakota’s Bakken region and fields outside of the United States.
