According to The Wall Street Journal, sand is an excellent resource in which to invest.

Companies like Insight Equity Holdings LLC, a Texas-based firm, are cashing in on the demand for sand. Insight is investing in Emerge Energy Services LP, a company that supplies sand to energy companies for fracking.

Sand is one of the main components used in hydraulic fracturing. Once combined with water and chemicals, the mixture is pumped into a well. The mixture creates fissures that get natural gas and oil out of the shale.

The best type of sand? According to Insight, Wisconsin’s sand works well for oil fracking.
