A blowout at a Utica Shale well in Monroe County occurred Dec. 13, reports Massillon Independent.

As of Dec. 15, natural gas was still flowing from the Stalder 3UH well, but there are plans to cut off the well head and replace it. The well, was drilled and fracked last year, has been shut off. Air monitors on and around the pad are in place.

There were no injuries reported, but residents from 25 homes within a 1.5 mile radius were evacuated and were only allowed to return to their homes during the day. They were not permitted to sleep in their homes.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will investigate the cause of the blowout. Until then, the other wells on the pad will not be in operation.
