As of July 1, NiSource Inc. and Columbia Pipeline Group became two independent companies, according to Columbus Business First.

In September 2014, NiSource Inc. announced its decision to split from Columbia Gas of Ohio, its parent company. NiSource, based in Merrillville, Indiana, intends to become a natural gas and electric utility only. A NiSource news release announcing the two companies’ split explains that NiSource continues to be one of the largest natural gas utility companies in the United States.

Columbia Pipeline Group has more than 15,000 miles of natural gas pipelines. The company expects to have $10 billion in investments in the future.
