ODNR issues 17 permits for Ohio’s Utica Shale

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources approved 17 permits for wells in Ohio’s Utica Shale during the week ended May 25, according to The Youngstown Business Journal.

The permit breakdown is as follows: Ascent Resources Utica LLC received eight permits for six wells in Jefferson County and two in Belmont County, Rice Drilling LLC received seven permits for wells in Belmont County and Hilcorp Energy Co. received two permits to drill new horizontal wells in Columbiana County.

To date, ODNR has issued 3,093 permits across the Utica shale, of which 2,601 are drilled and 2,186 are in production, according to ODNR data.

The rig count in the Utica stood at 16 as of May 25.
