Pennsylvania among drilling states that may have to meet new air pollution controls

In an effort to reduce contributions to ozone levels, the Obama administration is getting ready to release new smog controls that will affect both urban and rural areas, thus impacting the oil and gas industry.

Houston Chronicle reports that drilling areas in several states, including Pennsylvania, Texas and Oklahoma, may have to meet new air pollution controls, such as reducing methane emissions and raising safety standards. If companies don’t comply with the new standards, they will face costly regulations, which may in turn force companies to cut workforce.

According to the source, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is working to determine which counties will be placed in violation of the standards.
