Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration proposed a new tax package, but it was voted down Oct. 7.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the 3.5 percent severance tax on oil and gas drilling was part of the deal that was struck down. According to Rep. John Maher, that severance tax would have been in addition to the 4 percent impact fee instated in 2012. Drillers would also pay 4.7 cents per thousand cubic feet of natural gas extracted.
Combined, those fees would give Pennsylvania the highest oil and gas extraction tax in the U.S.
