Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf signed an executive order Jan. 29 placing a moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases on the state’s public lands.

According to Reuters, former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett removed the ban during his term. Wolf is not opposed to fracking, but he advocates for minimal environmental impact.

Federal data predicts that in 2015, about 20 percent of natural gas produced in the United States will come from the Marcellus Shale.
