One of the biggest problems with delivering natural gas to the Northeast is a lack of infrastructure for pipelines, according to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Natural gas companies aiming to provide natural gas reliably and at stable prices are unable to do so until pipelines are built. Citing an example from the winter of 2014, Ryan Savage, vice president and general manager for Williams Cos. northeast gathering and processing business, says that natural gas in New York City cost an average of $123 per thousand cubic feet. In Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale, natural gas cost $4 per thousand cubic feet due to pipeline infrastructure.

Williams is building both the Constitution Pipeline and the Atlantic Sunrise Pipeline. Williams’ multibillion-dollar pipeline expansion program aims to bring natural gas to consumers during peak times, especially during the winter.
