Ohio Oil and Gas Association reports that oil and gas industry jobs make up 3.9 percent of Ohio’s employment.

This figure comes from the American Petroleum Institute’s data. According to the report, the shale industry supports over 255,000 Ohio jobs. The average salary for a worker in the oil and gas industry makes $72,238 annually.

The report also cites projected job growth numbers through the year 2020, though it doesn’t cite whether or not those numbers refer to jobs for Ohioans or for out-of-state workers.
