Rex Energy Releases Preliminary Well Results

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Rex Energy Corporation announced today initial results from its first three shale gas wells, named the “Warrior South Wells,” in Ohio’s Utica shale.
According to Tom Stabley, Rex Energy’s chief executive officer, the company is excited about the test results and has identified approximately 45 additional well locations.
Guernsey County
The Guernsey 2H well, located in Noble County, Ohio, was drilled to a depth of approximately 12,097 feet with a lateral length of 3,640 feet. The gas being produced is approximately 1,207 BTU (39% NGLs, 43% gas and 18% condensate).
The Guernsey 1H well, located in Noble County, Ohio, was drilled to a depth of approximately 11,963 feet with a lateral length of 3,587 feet. The gas being produced is approximately 1,216 BTU (39% NGLs, 43% gas and 18% condensate).
Noble County
The Noble 1H well, located in Noble County, Ohio, was drilled to a depth of approximately 11,740 feet with a lateral length of 3,378 feet. The gas being produced is approximately 1,216 BTU (41% NGLs, 45% gas and 14% condensate).
Rex Energy currently holds approximately 6,700 gross acres within the Warrior South Prospect in its Joint Development Area with MFC Drilling, Inc. and ABARTA Oil and Gas Co., Inc.

What is fracking?
Fracking is a slang term for hydraulic fracturing. Fracturing is a process by which highly pressurized fluid is pumped thousands of feet into the ground to fracture rock formations. The goal is to release the natural gas that’s locked inside the rock.
Is it safe?
What most concerns people about fracturing is ground water contamination. The worry is that fractures underground, caused by the process, will extending upwards and into aquifers, releasing gas and chemicals into the ground water supply. There’s been no confirmed reports of such a thing happening. Though surface spills and drill site blowouts can lead to localized environmental concerns.
Will my water catch on fire?
Flammable water is caused by the release of methane gas into a drinking water supply. Methane gas occurs naturally and can be released by any kind of drilling, including water wells. In Pennsylvania officials fined Chesapeake Energy $1 million for contaminating ground water with methane. It was determined that the company had not properly cemented it’s boreholes and gas migrated up the well, between rock and into aquifers.
