Study links increased asthma attacks with heavy natural gas production

According to StateImpact Pennsylvania, research conducted at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health indicates that proximity to heavy natural gas drilling may increase the likelihood of asthma attacks in individuals who already suffer from asthma.

The study consisted of reviewing more than 35,000 health records of patients who had asthma from the Geisinger Health System, plus well production data from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The Geisinger Health System encompasses 40 Pennsylvania counties.

The study was published in the peer-reviewed journal, JAMA Internal Medicine.
