The United States Department’s Office of Fossil Energy faces a 58 percent funding cut in 2018 under President Donald Trump’s proposed federal budget, according to Rigzone.

The Office of Fossil Energy has developed many drilling innovations that have been available to any company but have helped independent drillers the most by giving them an opportunity to compete.

The government has had a hand in nearly every major energy innovation in the last 50 years. The shale revolution is a result of federal research.
