US sees ninth straight week of record-low rig count

The United States’ working rig count dropped to a record-low for the ninth straight week, sliding from 265 on June 29 to 263 on July 2, according to the latest count from Baker Hughes.

In addition to hitting an all-time low for the ninth week in a row, the U.S. rig count also saw its 16th straight week of declines as on July 2. A year ago, there were 963 rigs including 24 offshore rigs.

Of the current total, 185 are oil rigs and 76 are gas wells. The oil count dropped by three and the gas total grew by one from the previous week.
