The hands-on training, guest speakers and online modules at the Utica Shale Academy, located in Southern Local Schools in Salineville, is preparing students for jobs in the shale industry, WKBN reports.

Three certifications that are required for getting a job in the shale industry are offered for students: The Rig Pass, Drilling Instructors Training (DIT) and Well Controlled Certification.

The school’s curriculum will change as the industry changes and different skills are needed in the field. Also, insight from an advisory board will be used to better prepare students.
