The Utica Shale Academy, located at Southern Local High School in Salineville, Ohio, has named Eric Sampson as its director, according to WKBN.

Sampson, a 15-year veteran teacher, prepared for the director position by attending the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program, which provided information about the oil and gas drilling and production process.

The program is designed for students to earn college credit while still in high school. Students also have the opportunity to learn a trade while in high school and even begin working toward a certificate or degree through Stark State Community College.

From WKBN:

“The Utica Shale Academy is a conversion school sponsored by the Jefferson County Educational Service Center that will offer more than 100 traditional high school courses, ranging from advanced placement to specialized classes focusing on the energy industry.”
