It’s possible that the Utica Shale in Pennsylvania could hold at least as much as the state’s Marcellus Shale. However, Utica wells are typically more expensive to drill because they are deeper than Marcellus wells.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that producers are looking to develop the Utica Shale in the future, but while too few pipelines have kept prices low, drilling plans are being put off.
Several Pennsylvania drillers, including EQT Corp. and Consol Energy Inc., plan to drill into the Utica in the next several years.
