Mountain Valley Pipeline developers sue West Virginia landowners

The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register reports that developers of the Mountain Valley Pipeline are suing West Virginia landowners that are refusing to allow the developers on their properties for surveying.
The Mountain Valley Pipeline is designed to move oil and natural gas from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays to markets in the northeast and south. EQT Corp. and NextEra Gas Assets are developing the pipeline, which would transport 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day from Wetzel County’s MarkWest Energy processing station to Virginia.
The pipeline developers believe that eminent domain, mentioned in West Virginia law, allows them to use the property for pipeline construction regardless of landowners’ refusal because the pipelines would be for public use.
