According to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, low commodity prices, slowed drilling and lawsuits are some of the factors delaying the construction of Marcellus shale pipelines that would carry natural gas to other markets.
In addition, environmental groups oppose the pipelines, arguing for the safety of residents and communities. After a pipeline explosion and fire April 29 in Westmoreland County, pipeline opposition from environmentalists has increased.
The newspaper lists a number of pipeline projects in the region that have been delayed, including the Mariner East II and the PennEast pipeline.
