36 drilling permits issued in Ohio, Pa., W. Va. last week

Thirty-six shale oil and gas drilling permits were issued in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia last week, according to Marcellus Drilling News.
Pennsylvania issued 19 new permits in the southwestern and northeastern regions of the state.
West Virginia issued nine new permits. Seven of those were issued to Antero Resources to drill in Tyler County.
Ohio issued eight permits to Ascent Resources across two well pads.

What are royalties?
Royalties are payments from the gas company to the landowner as part of a lease agreement. Royalties payments cannot begin until production begins. The payments are dependent upon the market price of the resource.
