Shale drilling is on hold in Ashtabula County due to lack of demand and low oil prices, according to Star Beacon.
Studies have shown that there are shale deposits in Ashtabula County, and some residents have sold drilling rights in anticipation of drilling. Also, county officials have worked to prepare laws and regulations regarding roads for increased truck traffic that could result from fracking in the future.
For now, most of the fracking activity is in southeastern Ohio while officials in Ashtabula County weigh the financial implications of drilling.
