Dominion Energy and Duke Energy have officially decided to abandon the Atlantic Coast pipeline project just three weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the pipeline could cross the Appalachian Trail, according to Fits News.
Despite the recent ruling in favor of the project, Virginia-based Dominion and North Carolina -based Duke are opting not to complete the $8 billion pipeline project.
“This announcement reflects the increasing legal uncertainty that overhangs large-scale energy and industrial infrastructure development in the United States,” the companies said in a joint statement. “Until these issues are resolved, the ability to satisfy the country’s energy needs will be significantly challenged.”
