Baker Hughes: US rig count drops for 17th week in a row

The number of working rigs in the United States recently dropped to a record low number, according to Kallanish Energy.

The US rig count slid from 263 rigs on July 2 to 258 on July 10, a drop of five rigs, according to the latest count from Baker Hughes. The drop marked the 10th straight week of record low rig counts and the 17th straight week of declining rig counts.

The July 10 total of 258 includes 181 oil rigs and 75 gas wells. A year ago, there were 958 rigs including 26 offshore rigs.
