The Bakken Shale of North Dakota and Montana gained four rigs, as the US rig count rose two to 623 during the week ended Sept. 2, according to Enverus.

The Bakken Shale totaled 28 rigs for the first time since April 29, 2020, when oil prices started to bottom out due to declining demand impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bakken began 2020 with 54 rigs.

Meanwhile, the Permian Basin shed three rigs to drop to 260 total; the Eagle Ford Shale gained two rigs to total 43; the SCOOP-STACK play rose one to total 29 and the Utica Shale lost one rig to total 12.

The Marcellus Shale, Haynesville Shale and DJ Basin all remained unchanged.
