The Biden administration has approved a permit that would allow the Mountain Valley Pipeline to run through 3.5 miles of Jefferson National Forest in West Virginia and Virginia, according to The New York Times.

The United States Forest Service’s decision gives the $6.6 billion project momentum as it nears completion. It also delivers a significant victory to Senator Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, who has championed the project and strongly supports fossil fuels.

When completed the Mountain Valley Pipeline will carry gas about 300 miles from the Marcellus Shale in West Virginia to Virginia.
