President Biden banned the importation of Russia’s oil, natural gas and coal on Tuesday, according to The New York Times.
The president signed an executive order that prohibits anyone in the United States from importing “Russian crude oil and certain petroleum products, liquefied natural gas and coal.” It also bans new U.S. investment directly in Russia’s energy sector or in foreign companies that are investing in energy production in Russia, according to White House officials.
Republicans and Democrats in Congress had been urging the president to institute the ban that effectively halts the importation of energy resources from Russia into the United States, which currently receives less than 10% of its energy resources from Russia.
