The United States Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will auction 48 million acres in central Gulf of Mexico waters for offshore oil and gas exploration on March 22, according to Splash24/7.
Lease Sale 247 marks the 12th and final sale for the Gulf of Mexico under the five-year plan for 2012-2017 under U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration.
Lease Sale 247 includes 9,118 blocks, ranging between 9 feet to 11,115 feet in depth and anywhere from 3 to 230 miles offshore Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. It will be live streamed on the BOEM website on March 22.
