Carroll County, Ohio, has a total of 440 Utica Shale wells. That number includes producing, drilled and permitted wells, according to Akron Beacon Journal.

Many Carroll County families have benefitted from the shale boom, raking in thousands of dollars from signing bonuses and royalty payments. It is estimated that as many as 550 residents are millionaires.

Along with the boom are positives and negatives for the residents. Increased traffic through the county has been linked to the increased number of traffic accidents. Business has been brought into the area, but with that, increased crime rates and violence have occurred.
