Columbia Gas will start providing gas from the Utica and Marcellus shale plays starting in April, which could decrease prices for its consumers, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

The company plans to utilize several pipelines that can ship gas from the Utica and Marcellus shale formations in Ohio and several neighboring states. Simultaneously, it will be ending a long-term contract in which it got gas delivered from the Gulf Coast.

A company spokesman estimated that at least 40 percent of Columbia’s gas will come from pipelines that get their supply within the Utica and Marcellus region.
