According to Observer-Reporter, Consol Energy Inc. flared a Utica shale test well this past weekend. The flaring was predicted to last for three days.

Consol finished completions operations and flowback has started at the Rogersville well. The company estimated that the flare would be about 200 feet high, atop a 175-foot flare stack.

Flaring is the controlled burning of natural gas at a well site. The purpose of flaring is to burn small amounts of natural gas if the gas cannot be processed.
