In November 2013, Broomfield, Colorado, held elections. On the ballot was an initiative to ban fracking in the city. It was a close race, but the ban was set in place after it had passed by 20 votes.

Now, according to Bloomberg News, a Colorado District Court Judge ruled that the city’s five-year ban on fracking will remain in effect. A ruling that was made after opponents of the ban challenged the election results.

Opponents of the ban are not taking it lightly. The Colorado Oil and Gas Association has sued two other cities that voted to ban drilling, Lafayette and Fort Collins.
