Deep Well Services takes on longer horizontal wells with higher pressure

Drilling longer horizontal wells should be left up to the experts at Zelienople-based Deep Well Services, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The company offers the only snubbing service — drilling units that provide consistent pressure for drilling, minimizes damage to the shale formation — in Pennsylvania. Snubbing is needed for wells with longer laterals, which have higher pressure than wells with shorter laterals.

Deep Well Services completed the well in Tyler County, W.Va., newly famous for likely being the most productive well in the Utica Shale. The well is 10,825 feet deep and reaches one mile horizontally.

Noting that drilling is a dangerous part of the shale industry, Deep Well Services offers training courses and draws from Canadian drilling standards to form safety courses.
