The first tanker loaded with shale ethane from the United States arrived at Scotland’s Grangemouth location of chemical company Ineos on Sept. 27, according to OilPrice.com.

Although the delivery went as planned, it was met with some resistance from environmental activists. However, Ineos company representatives and United Kingdom industry bodies welcomed the shipment and are hopeful it will help the local economy revival and save jobs.

Earlier this year, Ineos said U.S. shale could allow the Grangemouth facility to run at its full rate and make the complex profitable again. The company currently has additional contracts to buy gas from the Marcellus Shale in Western Pennsylvania.
