In Pennsylvania, communities and state agencies will share $223.5 million in impact fees this year, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource. As of June 10, the impact fee payments for counties and municipalities that host oil and gas well operations had not yet been calculated.
The revenue from 2014 impact fees is down slightly from 2013. In 2013, companies paid $225.7 million to drill in the Marcellus Shale.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is pushing for a shale gas severance tax. The severance tax would raise money for public education, environmental protection and economic development.
