The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued four horizontal well permits in Ohio’s Utica shale during the week ended Sept. 22, of those, three were obtained by Eclipse Resources, according to The Youngstown Business Journal.
The bulk of the permits were issued to Eclipse, who plans to drill its three new wells in Monroe County. The final permit was secured by XTO Energy for a new well in Belmont County.
During the week these permits were issued, there were 18 active oil and natural gas rigs operating in the Utica shale, according to the ODNR.
