EQT Corp. intends to drill a well in Wetzel County, West Virginia’s dry Utica shale sometime during the third quarter of this year.
The State Journal reports that the company successfully drilled a dry Utica test well in southwestern Pennsylvania’s Greene County that so far has produced more dry natural gas than expected. The Greene County well’s initial test produced 73 million cubic feet of natural gas per day but has been cut back to 26 million cubic feet per day. It cost $30 million to build.
The Wetzel County test well will be drilled on a Marcellus Shale pad, just like the test well in Greene County. EQT executive vice president for exploration and production Steven T. Schlotterbeck said that after the well is tested, the company will work on lowering drilling and completion costs.
