Even though drilling may be years away, EQT Corp. has been considering properties in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, for shale development.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that EQT has not yet released information about where drilling will take place. Some businesses and organizations, like non-profits, are opposed to wells drilled on their properties but are considering leasing their gas rights.
These businesses and organizations would be paid up front, and they would receive royalties based on the amount of shale gas extracted, like private landowners receive. The city would receive payment in advance, too.
