Last week, the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved Dominion Energy Inc’s request to move forward with construction on the Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline in parts of West Virginia, according to Reuters.

While the agency’s authorization gives Dominion permission to build its $6-6.5 billion pipeline in parts of West Virginia, it does not include construction on National Forest Service Lands. Some of these areas are the subject of legal dispute or, in some locations, home to the Indiana Bat. Federal regulators said Dominion would have to obtain confirmation from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that its activities would not harm the endangered bats’ habitat.

The company expects to complete the project as planned by the end of 2019.
