England may have a large reserve of oil and natural gas, but a hydraulic fracturing proposal was voted down in the Lancashire County government June 29.
The Wall Street Journal reports that exploration company Cuadrilla Resources had submitted a proposal to frack in the northwest region of England. The company was turned down several days prior to this week’s rejection.
The Lancashire County Council stated that fracking’s noise as well as increased traffic and negative aesthetic appeal were reasons why fracking was rejected.
In Germany, legislation that would temporarily ban and limit fracking is being debated.
