A trio of oil and natural gas industry advocates are pushing back against the potential of implementing a methane emissions tax, according to Pittsburgh Business Times.
Last week the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the Gas & Oil Association of West Virginia and the Ohio Oil & Gas Association sent letters to the members of the Congressional delegation in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, asking them to oppose a methane emissions tax that might end up being part of a budget reconciliation process in Washington, D.C.
“Such a fee is simply an unreasonable, punitive tax intended to harm the oil and natural gas industry and consumers, as well as diminish the tremendous economic and environmental benefits derived from the hundreds of thousands of women and men who work directly and indirectly for the industry in the Appalachian Basin,” said the letter signed by MSC President Dave Callahan, OOGA President Matt Hammond and Gas & Oil Association of West Virginia Executive Director Charlie Burd.
