Despite intentions to move drilling elsewhere, Halcon Resources Corp. continues to maintain several wells in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio, which include the northern section of the Utica shale.
The Business Journal of Youngstown reports that several wells in the area continue to be used by Halcon, including the Lutz 1H well in Trumbull County and the Kibler well in Lordstown Township. Out of the 32 permits issued the week of June 21, Halcon only received one for the Lutz H1 site.
Hilcorp Energy Co. has been granted dozens of permits since March for locations in Lawrence and Mercer counties. Hilcorp’s well in Poland Township was shut down after its production was linked to minor earthquakes in eastern Mahoning County.
The bulk of drilling is taking place in Ohio counties south of the Pennsylvania border, including Carroll, Harrison, Belmont, and Monroe counties.
