Hilcorp Energy has withdrawn its application to use the “forced pooling” provisions of Pennsylvania’s Oil and Gas Conservation Law, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette PowerSource reports.
The provision would have allowed for Hilcorp to hydraulically frack the Utica Shale in northwestern Pennsylvania where some landowners refused to lease drilling rights to the company.
Hilcorp completed the first of several steps to acquire the forced pooling permissions under the law by applying to the Department of Environmental Protection for a well spacing order. Hilcorp removed its application at this point, before the next step of applying for an integration order. Now, Hilcorp is instead going to drill acreage that it has under lease.
